Are you a highly skilled and experienced network professional seeking a challenging role in a dynamic industrial environment? Mimosa Mining Company invites applications for the position of Senior Network Support Technician, based at our operations in Zvishavane, Midlands Province. This critical role is essential for maintaining the integrity, security, and performance of our extensive network infrastructure, which underpins all aspects of our sophisticated mining operations.
As a Senior Network Support Technician, you will be at the forefront of ensuring seamless connectivity and network stability across our mine site, offices, and remote facilities. You will be responsible for the proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex network issues, minimizing downtime and supporting our continuous operational needs. Your expertise will be crucial in designing, implementing, and maintaining network solutions that meet the evolving demands of a modern mining company, incorporating both IT and operational technology (OT) networks.
This position demands a deep understanding of network protocols, security best practices, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. You will work closely with various departments, including operations, engineering, and IT teams, to provide expert network support, recommend improvements, and ensure adherence to organizational standards. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, WLAN) in a high-availability industrial setting.
- Proactively monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and reliability.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and resolution of network outages and performance issues, minimizing downtime for critical operations.
- Configure and manage network security devices including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN solutions.
- Manage and maintain network hardware (routers, switches, access points) from various vendors, ensuring firmware and software are up-to-date.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedural guides.
- Collaborate with IT and OT teams to integrate new systems and technologies into the existing network architecture.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network support staff.
- Liaise with external vendors and service providers for support, procurement, and new technology integration.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide off-hours support for critical network incidents.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in network administration or support in an enterprise environment.
- Strong proficiency with TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), and switching technologies (VLANs, STP, EtherChannel).
- Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and/or Juniper network equipment.
- Hands-on experience with firewall management (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA).
- Proficiency in VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN) and remote access solutions.
- Solid understanding of network security principles and best practices.
- Experience with wireless networking technologies and wireless access point management.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with industrial control systems (ICS) networks and operational technology (OT) environments.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Project management experience in network infrastructure deployment or upgrade projects.
