Career.zycto is seeking an exceptional and strategic Director of Research & Development to lead the innovation engine for one of our distinguished clients in Bulawayo. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with the company’s long-term business goals and market opportunities.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from ideation and concept generation through to validation, testing, and successful market launch.
- Manage the R&D budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, scientific advancements, and market trends to maintain a competitive edge.
- Establish and maintain strong intellectual property (IP) protection strategies, including patent applications and trade secret management.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality control protocols.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, marketing, operations, and sales to integrate R&D efforts with overall business strategies.
- Present R&D progress, findings, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Cultivate a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and scientific excellence within the R&D department.
Required Skills
- PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology).
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in Research & Development, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership or directorial role.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic R&D roadmaps and translate research into commercially viable products.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property management and patenting processes.
- Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven track record in budget management, resource allocation, and project portfolio oversight.
- Deep technical expertise relevant to the industry (e.g., advanced materials, biotechnology, software, electronics, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
