Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Groundskeeper to join the Career.zycto team, focusing on estate maintenance across our managed properties in Derby and the surrounding areas. This vital role involves maintaining the aesthetic appeal and health of various outdoor environments, ranging from manicured gardens to expansive lawns and communal green spaces. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of horticultural practices, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and be proficient in operating a range of landscaping equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring that all grounds are kept to the highest standards, reflecting the quality and prestige associated with our properties. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular lawn care, including mowing, edging, strimming, and aeration, ensuring neat and tidy appearances.
  • Undertake planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and general maintenance of flowerbeds, shrubs, trees, and hedges.
  • Manage irrigation systems, ensuring optimal watering for all plant life and efficient water usage.
  • Monitor and address pest and disease issues in plants, implementing appropriate and safe control measures.
  • Maintain hardscape areas such as pathways, patios, and driveways, ensuring they are clean, safe, and free from debris or overgrown vegetation.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and power tools, adhering to all safety guidelines.
  • Conduct minor repairs to fences, gates, outdoor furniture, and other estate fixtures as required.
  • Clear leaves, snow, and ice during relevant seasons, ensuring pathways and access routes remain safe and clear.
  • Assist with waste management, including litter picking and ensuring bins are emptied and areas kept clean.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times, conducting risk assessments where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Groundskeeper or in a similar landscaping/horticultural role.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining a range of gardening and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Solid knowledge of plant care, seasonal planting, pruning techniques, and pest control.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices relating to grounds work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina for demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Full UK driving license with no more than 6 penalty points.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture, Landscaping, or a related field.
  • PA1/PA6 certification for pesticide application.
  • Experience with irrigation system maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna and environmental best practices.
  • Basic first aid certification.
