Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Welder with a strong background in fabrication work to join our dedicated team at our Embakasi facility. This industrial role is critical to maintaining the operational efficiency and integrity of our manufacturing machinery and infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing various welding tasks, fabricating components, and performing repairs on equipment, structures, and tools, ensuring all work adheres to stringent safety and quality standards. You will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders to complete projects accurately and efficiently. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various welding processes including MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Arc welding on different materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and fabrication drawings to determine the precise specifications for welding and fabrication projects.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install metal structures and components according to design specifications and safety protocols.
  • Execute repair welds on worn or damaged machinery, equipment, and structural components to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Conduct quality inspections of welds for compliance with specifications, using visual inspection and other appropriate methods.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations, policies, and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in the preventative maintenance of plant machinery and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other skilled trades and team members to complete projects on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of metal properties and welding metallurgy.
  • Experience with various fabrication tools and equipment (e.g., grinders, cutting torches, presses).
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial safety procedures and best practices in welding.
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant welding certification (e.g., AWS, API, or equivalent Kenyan certification).
  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of other fabrication processes such as cutting, bending, and shaping metal.
  • Ability to operate forklifts or overhead cranes (certification preferred).
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
