Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Academic Support Teacher Assistant to join our vibrant team in Huron Park, Kitchener. In this crucial role, you will work collaboratively with lead teachers and specialized staff to provide targeted assistance to students across various grade levels and subjects. Your primary focus will be on creating an inclusive atmosphere where every student feels confident to ask questions, explore new concepts, and overcome academic challenges. You will facilitate small group instruction, offer one-on-one tutoring, and help implement individualized education plans (IEPs) or learning accommodations. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group academic support to students requiring additional assistance in various subjects.
  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials, classroom activities, and special projects.
  • Help reinforce concepts taught by the lead teacher and clarify instructions for students.
  • Monitor student progress, observe behavior, and report findings to the classroom teacher.
  • Support the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and other learning accommodations.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Assist with classroom management and maintain an organized, safe, and productive learning space.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including transitions, recess, and lunch.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members to support student development.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings as required.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an educational setting or working with children/youth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students learn and grow.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Education, Child Development, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs or exceptionalities.
  • Knowledge of various teaching methodologies and academic support strategies.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
