Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the overarching R&D strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term business objectives and market demands.
  • Lead, inspire, mentor, and manage a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and researchers, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept generation and feasibility studies to prototyping, testing, and successful market launch.
  • Efficiently manage the R&D budget, resources, and timelines, ensuring projects are delivered on scope, on schedule, and within financial parameters.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate new and emerging technologies, materials, and scientific advancements that can enhance our product portfolio and competitive advantage.
  • Drive the generation and protection of intellectual property through strategic patent filings, trade secret management, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Establish and maintain robust quality control standards and regulatory compliance across all R&D activities and new product introductions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, operations, marketing, and sales departments to ensure seamless transfer of technology and successful commercialization.
  • Present comprehensive R&D reports, progress updates, and strategic recommendations to senior management and executive leadership.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and global scientific developments to inform strategic decision-making and innovation roadmaps.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Research & Development or product innovation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful R&D strategies that align with business goals.
  • Strong understanding of scientific principles, engineering methodologies, and product development processes.
  • Exceptional leadership, team building, and talent development capabilities.
  • Proven track record in managing complex projects, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data and analytics for informed decision-making.
  • Ability to drive innovation, foster creativity, and manage change within a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering).
  • Experience in the manufacturing, agricultural technology, or renewable energy sectors specific to the regional context.
  • Demonstrated success in bringing multiple innovative products from concept to commercialization.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property law and patent portfolio management.
  • MBA or equivalent business qualification is a plus.
