Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally talented and visionary Director of Research & Development to lead our innovation efforts in Kariba. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of sustainable technology and a proven track record of bringing cutting-edge products and solutions from concept to commercialization. As the Director of R&D, you will be instrumental in defining our long-term technology roadmap, fostering a culture of continuous innovation, and managing a team of brilliant scientists and engineers. Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the company’s R&D strategy and long-term technology roadmap.
  • Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing team of R&D scientists and engineers.
  • Oversee the full R&D project lifecycle, from conceptualization and prototyping to testing and commercialization.
  • Manage the R&D budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate new technologies and methodologies relevant to sustainable solutions.
  • Ensure robust intellectual property protection for new inventions and developments.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the R&D department.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams to ensure successful product launches.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes in the sustainable technology sector.
  • Present R&D progress, challenges, and strategic vision to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in R&D processes, tools, and methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Renewable Energy, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in R&D, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sustainable technologies, renewable energy, or environmental science.
  • Proven track record of successfully bringing new products or technologies to market.
  • Strong understanding of intellectual property management and patenting processes.
  • Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and software.
  • Ability to manage complex budgets and resources effectively.
  • Strategic thinking with a results-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an international or diverse market environment.
