Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated News Reporter to join our expanding team in Cassis, Port Louis. We are looking for an individual with a keen eye for detail, an unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity, and a passion for uncovering compelling stories that resonate with our local and national audience. As a News Reporter, you will be at the forefront of information gathering, responsible for researching, investigating, and reporting on a wide range of topics, including local events, politics, business, culture, and social issues. This role demands a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.

You will be expected to develop and maintain a robust network of sources, conduct interviews with various individuals – from community leaders to everyday citizens – and gather accurate, verifiable information. The successful candidate will have a strong command of broadcast journalism principles, including writing for radio and television, understanding visual storytelling, and contributing to online platforms. Your reporting will not only inform but also spark conversation and provide critical context, contributing significantly to our mission of delivering impactful and relevant news to the people of Mauritius. Key Responsibilities

  • Research, investigate, and report on a diverse range of local and national news stories across various beats.
  • Conduct engaging interviews with individuals from all walks of life, including public officials, experts, and community members.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of sources to generate exclusive leads and reliable information.
  • Write clear, concise, and compelling news scripts for broadcast (radio and television) and digital platforms.
  • Shoot and edit video footage or coordinate with videographers/editors for visual storytelling, where applicable.
  • Perform live broadcasts, studio segments, and on-location reporting with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, company editorial guidelines, and legal standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with producers, editors, and other team members to deliver high-quality content under deadline pressure.
  • Actively participate in editorial meetings, pitching new story ideas and contributing to content planning.
  • Engage with the audience through social media and community events to gather feedback and promote stories.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in news reporting, preferably in a broadcasting environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and French (Mauritian Creole a strong asset).
  • Strong investigative and interviewing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Proficiency in modern newsgathering techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of journalistic ethics and best practices.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for assignments.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) and broadcast equipment.
  • Familiarity with the political, social, and economic landscape of Mauritius.
  • Experience with social media for news dissemination and audience engagement.
  • A strong portfolio of published broadcast or digital news stories.
