Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our professional team, dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety within an industrial estate environment in Walderston, Manchester. This pivotal role requires a proactive and meticulous professional passionate about creating and maintaining a secure workplace for all employees, contractors, and visitors. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust safety programs that comply with local regulations and international best practices. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all health and safety matters, providing expert guidance and fostering a culture where safety is paramount.

The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial hazards, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation protocols. You will be responsible for conducting regular inspections, identifying potential risks, and implementing corrective actions promptly. You will work collaboratively with management, supervisors, and employees to embed safety into every aspect of operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OSH Act and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits of the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities, machinery, and processes, recommending and implementing control measures.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and developing preventative strategies.
  • Organize and deliver safety training programs for employees, covering topics such as emergency procedures, hazard communication, and proper use of PPE.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, training, and compliance documentation.
  • Advise management on health and safety best practices, regulatory changes, and required improvements.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies and emergency services as required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the industrial estate through communication, engagement, and visible leadership.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with safety management systems implementation.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fluency in local dialect (Patois) is a plus.
