Job Description
AECOM is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Remote Policy Impact Researcher to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role will focus on evaluating the effectiveness and implications of various policies across diverse sectors, including infrastructure, environment, social development, and urban planning. Working remotely, you will contribute to projects that inform critical decision-making for both public and private sector clients, operating from a base in the Newcastle upon Tyne area.
As a Remote Policy Impact Researcher, you will conduct in-depth research, analyse complex data sets, and produce evidence-based reports that assess policy outcomes, identify unintended consequences, and propose actionable recommendations. Your work will directly influence policy formulation, implementation, and refinement, helping to ensure that policies achieve their intended positive impacts and contribute to sustainable development. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, a meticulous approach to research, and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly and concisely to a variety of stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive desk research, literature reviews, and data analysis to assess the impact of existing and proposed policies.
- Develop and apply appropriate research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative approaches, for policy evaluation.
- Prepare detailed reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other communication materials summarizing research findings and recommendations.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, government bodies, and academic institutions, to gather insights and validate findings.
- Monitor policy developments and trends relevant to AECOM's project areas and client needs.
- Contribute to bid proposals and project design, offering expertise in policy analysis and evaluation.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of all research outputs, adhering to AECOM's standards and ethical guidelines.
- Present research findings to clients and project teams, clearly articulating complex information and answering questions.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams across different geographical locations, leveraging digital communication tools.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in policy research, analysis, or evaluation, preferably within a consulting, government, or research institution setting.
- Strong understanding of policy cycles, public administration, and socio-economic impact assessment.
- Expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including statistical analysis (e.g., using R, Python, SPSS, Stata).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a remote environment.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental Policy, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Experience with impact assessment frameworks (e.g., SIA, EIA, HIA).
- Familiarity with specific policy domains relevant to AECOM (e.g., transport, energy, water, climate change resilience, social equity).
- Previous experience working in a consultancy environment.
- Project management skills and experience coordinating research projects.
