Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Lab Technician to join our dynamic Research & Development team in Washington Gardens, Kingston. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior researchers and scientists in setting up and executing experiments following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Prepare samples, reagents, and media with precision and accuracy for various analytical and experimental procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, pH meters, spectrophotometers, and basic microscopy tools.
- Accurately record and document experimental data, observations, and results in lab notebooks and electronic systems.
- Conduct preliminary data analysis under supervision, preparing reports and summaries as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace, adhering strictly to health and safety regulations and good laboratory practices (GLP).
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels of consumables and reagents.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report more complex problems to senior staff.
- Participate in team meetings, contributing to discussions and learning from project progress.
- Support the development and optimization of new laboratory protocols and procedures.
Required Skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Medical Technology, or a related scientific field.
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices (GLP).
- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, solution preparation, sterile technique).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in experimental setup and data recording.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior hands-on experience in a research or academic laboratory setting (e.g., during coursework, internship, or volunteer work).
