As a Street Vending Support Worker, your day-to-day will be dynamic and engaging. You’ll be on the ground, offering hands-on assistance with vendor setup, managing logistical challenges, and proactively addressing any operational issues that may arise. A significant part of your role will involve educating vendors on local bylaws, health and safety regulations, and permit requirements, ensuring all operations adhere to established guidelines. Furthermore, you will play a key role in promoting vendor offerings within the community, perhaps through social media engagement or local event coordination, thereby enhancing their visibility and success. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support and assistance to street vendors, including setup, breakdown, and general operational needs.
  • Educate vendors on local bylaws, permit requirements, health and safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for vendor inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution.
  • Monitor vending locations to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain cleanliness and order.
  • Facilitate communication between vendors, local authorities, and community organizations.
  • Assist in collecting feedback from vendors and the community to improve vending programs.
  • Document and report operational issues, incidents, and vendor performance.
  • Support marketing and promotional efforts for street vendors and vending initiatives.
  • Conduct routine checks to ensure all necessary permits and licenses are displayed and up-to-date.
  • Contribute to developing resources and training materials for vendors.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor, dynamic environment.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Empathy and cultural sensitivity to work with a diverse group of vendors.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., email, simple record-keeping).
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and assist with light lifting/setup for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in community outreach, customer service, or public relations.
  • Familiarity with local Surrey bylaws and regulations related to small businesses or public spaces.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to speak a second language prevalent in the local community (e.g., Punjabi, Mandarin).
