Job Description

A Recycling Plant Sorter plays a crucial role in the initial stages of waste processing, ensuring that recyclable materials are accurately identified, separated, and prepared for further processing. Key Responsibilities

  • Manually sort and separate various recyclable materials (e.g., paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, metals) from a conveyor belt.
  • Identify and remove non-recyclable items, contaminants, and hazardous materials from the sorting line.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all housekeeping standards.
  • Operate sorting equipment safely and efficiently, including compactors or balers as needed (after training).
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Inspect materials for quality control, ensuring sorted materials meet established specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding material flow, issues, or concerns.
  • Assist with general plant clean-up and maintenance tasks as required.
  • Adhere to production targets and contribute to overall operational efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to differentiate between various materials.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a sorting, production, or warehouse environment.

  • First Aid certification.
  • Forklift operator certification (an asset, but not required for sorter role).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings, if needed.
