Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive School Grounds Assistant to join our team, working within the Coquitlam, British Columbia area. This essential role is critical to maintaining a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment for students, staff, and visitors. As a School Grounds Assistant, you will be instrumental in ensuring the school’s outdoor spaces are impeccably maintained, supporting a positive learning and recreational atmosphere. You will perform a variety of tasks related to landscaping, general groundskeeping, and minor maintenance, working diligently to uphold the highest standards of safety and presentation. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and leaf blowing.
  • Undertake weeding, planting, watering, and general upkeep of garden beds and green spaces.
  • Remove litter, debris, and refuse from all outdoor areas, ensuring cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Conduct minor repairs to outdoor fixtures such as fences, gates, benches, and playground equipment as needed.
  • Assist with seasonal tasks, including snow removal, de-icing pathways, and preparing grounds for various weather conditions.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment safely and efficiently, including mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Inspect outdoor areas regularly for hazards or maintenance issues, reporting significant concerns to the supervisor.
  • Support the setup and teardown for outdoor school events, ensuring grounds are presentable and functional.

Required Skills

  • Proven physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of landscaping, gardening techniques, and grounds maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency in operating common groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers).
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Commitment to workplace safety protocols and procedures.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a similar outdoor maintenance role.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of local horticultural practices and plant care.
  • Familiarity with school environments or public facility maintenance.
