Key Responsibilities
- Accurately shelve library materials (books, periodicals, DVDs, etc.) according to established classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress).
- Perform shelf-reading to ensure materials are in correct order and identify misfiled items.
- Shift and organize library collections to maximize space and maintain an orderly appearance.
- Identify and report damaged or worn materials for repair or replacement.
- Assist with basic tidying and maintenance of library shelves and public areas.
- Handle returned materials, sorting them for re-shelving or processing.
- May assist with moving carts of materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to handling library materials and equipment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and consistently.
- Strong organizational skills and an exceptional eye for detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a quiet environment.
- Basic computer literacy for checking item status or using library systems.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
- Excellent reliability and punctuality.
