Job Description
Zimplats Holdings Limited is actively seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and dedicated CNC Machine Operator to join our dynamic engineering and maintenance team at our expansive Ngezi operations. This crucial on-site role involves the precision operation, programming, and routine maintenance of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to produce high-quality, intricate components vital for our vast array of mining and processing equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of machining principles, a keen eye for detail, and an unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of CNC milling and turning machines (e.g., Lathes, Vertical Machining Centers, Horizontal Machining Centers) to perform precision machining operations on various materials.
- Accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, engineering specifications, and G-code programs to ensure exact part production.
- Select and load appropriate raw materials, tooling, and fixtures; adjust machine settings, offsets, and cutting parameters to achieve optimal results.
- Monitor machine operations diligently, detect malfunctions or irregularities, and perform in-process quality control inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, depth gauges) to verify component conformance to tight tolerances and specifications.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, minor repairs, and basic troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance, longevity, and minimize downtime.
- Identify and diagnose machining issues, adjust parameters, modify G-code (if necessary), and implement effective corrective actions promptly.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to continuously optimize machining processes, improve efficiency, reduce material waste, and enhance product quality.
- Maintain accurate and detailed production records, machine logs, quality control documentation, and inventory of materials and tools.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements, environmental regulations, and quality management systems.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, safety awareness, and improvement within the workshop.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in operating and setting up CNC milling and turning machines in an industrial setting.
- Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and G-code programs.
- Demonstrated proficiency with precision measuring instruments and strong metrology skills.
- Basic understanding of CAD/CAM software for program interpretation and validation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of various metal alloys (e.g., steel, aluminum, brass) and their specific machining properties.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach.
- Exceptional attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as an integral part of a team.
- Uncompromising commitment to workplace safety and strict adherence to all safety procedures and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Certificate or Diploma in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Proven experience operating CNC machines within a heavy industrial, mining, or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, or similar industrial CNC control systems.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and methodologies for industrial machinery.
- Basic welding, fabrication, or fitting experience would be considered a significant advantage.
- Ability to work rotating shifts or overtime as required by operational demands.
