Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable database systems (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement proactive solutions for optimization.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, index rebuilds, and integrity checks.
  • Develop and implement database security strategies, ensuring data protection and compliance.
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database schemas.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, connectivity errors, and data corruption.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patching activities with minimal downtime.
  • Document database configurations, processes, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for critical production support.
  • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies and tools to improve efficiency and reliability.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in a production environment.
  • Expert-level proficiency with SQL Server, including T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Strong experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Proven track record of managing database backups, recovery, and high-availability solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups).
  • Solid understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.
  • Proficiency in database monitoring tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities, especially in a remote setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Familiarity with other database technologies such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Database certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional).
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
