Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to champion our commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and thriving industrial environment in Billy’s Bay, Treasure Beach. As a pivotal member of our operational team, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health and safety programs designed to protect our workforce, assets, and the surrounding community. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver comprehensive safety training programs to all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety-conscious culture.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation and internal standards.
- Prepare and present regular reports on health and safety performance, including incident rates, audit findings, and compliance status.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, including the selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including evacuation drills and first aid procedures.
- Promote continuous improvement in safety performance through proactive initiatives and employee engagement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Fluency in additional local languages (e.g., Jamaican Patois).
