Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe dictated medical reports, patient histories, physicals, operative reports, consultation notes, and discharge summaries from audio recordings.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of all transcribed documents, cross-referencing with existing patient information when necessary.
- Identify and correct any inconsistencies, discrepancies, or errors in medical terminology, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with all HIPAA and provincial privacy regulations (e.g., FIPPA, PIPA).
- Operate and maintain transcription equipment and software proficiently.
- Manage workflow effectively to meet production targets and deadlines for various medical specialties.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals for clarification of dictated information.
- Adhere to all facility and departmental policies and procedures regarding transcription standards and document management.
- Stay updated on current medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmaceutical terms.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Medical Transcriptionist (minimum 1.5 years).
- Expert knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
- Exceptional listening skills and ability to differentiate sounds and accents.
- High level of proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Excellent typing speed and accuracy (minimum 60-70 WPM).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Proficiency with medical transcription software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Medical Transcription program or equivalent certification.
- Familiarity with Canadian healthcare system specifics and documentation standards.
- Experience with voice recognition editing (VRE) software.
