Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a dynamic team within a prominent industrial estate in New Castle, Kingston, Jamaica. This professional role is crucial for maintaining and enhancing safety standards across various operations, ensuring full compliance with local and international regulations. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in cultivating a proactive safety culture, minimizing risks, and protecting the well-being of all personnel. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and delivering engaging safety training. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and compliance.
  • Manage the permit-to-work system, ensuring all high-risk activities are safely planned and executed.
  • Lead emergency response planning, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and first aid coordination.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, internal departments, and external stakeholders on all health and safety matters, ensuring clear communication and collaboration.
  • Monitor and report on H&S performance metrics, trends, and compliance status to management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) legislation and relevant international standards.
  • Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to effectively train and influence personnel at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and H&S management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety programs and initiatives.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional H&S qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in First Aid, Fire Safety, or other relevant H&S specializations.
