Are you a highly skilled and dedicated Electrician looking for an immediate opportunity to make a real impact? Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) is actively seeking an experienced and certified Electrician to join our dynamic technical team in Berea Ha Kotsi, Teyateyaneng. This is an exciting full-time, on-site role where you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of our critical electrical infrastructure, maintaining a consistent power supply to homes and businesses across the Berea district. As a key member of our technical staff, you will be responsible for a wide range of electrical tasks, from installation and preventative maintenance to rapid troubleshooting and emergency repairs on both low and medium voltage systems. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, scheduled inspections, and timely repairs of electrical systems, equipment, and components within LEC's generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.
- Efficiently diagnose and resolve complex electrical malfunctions, short circuits, power fluctuations, and outages safely and effectively.
- Install, test, and commission new electrical wiring, control systems, lighting installations, and power distribution units in accordance with industry standards.
- Accurately interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and detailed technical drawings to ensure precise installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and national electrical codes (e.g., SANS, IEC standards) to prevent accidents and ensure full compliance.
- Conduct comprehensive preventative maintenance programs designed to extend the operational lifespan of electrical assets and minimize costly downtime.
- Prepare clear, detailed reports on all work performed, materials utilized, and any significant issues encountered during assigned tasks.
- Respond promptly to emergency call-outs outside of regular working hours as required, ensuring rapid restoration of essential electricity services.
- Collaborate effectively with other technicians, engineers, and utility personnel to coordinate complex projects and ensure seamless operational continuity.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to junior electricians or apprentices as part of team development.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of all electrical tools, testing equipment, and critical spare parts.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to continuously improve safety awareness and practices.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a certified Electrician, with a minimum of 4 years (48 months) of hands-on experience, preferably within a utility, industrial, or heavy commercial environment.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, wiring practices, and component functionality (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, motors).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Strong diagnostic and advanced problem-solving skills for identifying and rectifying electrical faults.
- Excellent understanding and strict adherence to all electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and relevant regulations.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights, in confined spaces, and in various outdoor weather conditions.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reporting and team collaboration.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment and tools (up to 25 kg) and perform demanding physical tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Diploma or an advanced trade certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a closely related field.
- Experience with high-voltage systems (e.g., 11kV, 33kV) and power distribution networks.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLC programming, and other industrial control technologies.
- Certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Previous experience working in a remote or rural utility setting with diverse electrical challenges.
