Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding, watering, and administration of medication as prescribed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosages and schedules.
- Clean and disinfect animal enclosures, kennels, cages, and common areas thoroughly and consistently to maintain high standards of hygiene.
- Monitor animal behavior, appetite, and general health, promptly reporting any changes, concerns, or signs of illness or distress to the supervisor or veterinary team.
- Provide regular exercise, socialization, and enrichment activities tailored to each animal's specific needs and species.
- Assist with basic grooming tasks, including brushing, bathing, and nail trims, as required.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, feeding, medication, and behavioral observations.
- Restock supplies, manage inventory, and ensure all equipment is clean and in good working order.
- Handle animals gently and securely, minimizing stress and ensuring their safety and the safety of staff.
- Assist with intake and release procedures for animals, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed accurately.
- Communicate effectively with team members, volunteers, and the public regarding animal care and welfare.
Required Skills
- Proven experience working with animals (minimum 6 months in a professional or volunteer capacity)
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and welfare principles
- Ability to lift and carry heavy feed bags, animals, or equipment (up to 25 kg)
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
- Reliability and strong work ethic, especially with a casual schedule
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and adhere to strict protocols
- Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor when interacting with animals
- Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certification in animal care, veterinary assistance, or a related field
- Experience with a variety of animal species (e.g., cats, dogs, small mammals, birds)
- First aid certification for animals
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Residency in or close proximity to Rheydt, Mönchengladbach
