Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Remote Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic team, supporting critical government programs. This is a full-time, remote position based out of Huntsville, Alabama, meaning you will operate within the Central Time Zone and be available for occasional travel to project sites as needed, though primary work will be from your remote location. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions, primarily within AWS and Azure environments. You will play a crucial role in migrating on-premise systems to the cloud, optimizing existing cloud resources, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our cloud-based applications and services. This role demands a proactive individual with a deep understanding of cloud architecture best practices, automation tools, and security principles. You will collaborate closely with development, operations, and security teams to build resilient and compliant cloud platforms that meet stringent government requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage highly available, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions across AWS and Azure.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager.
- Automate deployment, monitoring, and operational tasks using scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Perform cloud migrations from on-premise environments, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
- Monitor cloud resource utilization, performance, and cost, implementing optimization strategies.
- Implement and enforce cloud security best practices, compliance standards (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP), and access controls.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical cloud systems.
- Document cloud architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance our infrastructure.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering or infrastructure roles with a focus on AWS and/or Azure.
- Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure ARM).
- Expertise in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (VPCs, subnets, routing, firewalls, VPNs).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Splunk, ELK stack).
- Understanding of security best practices, identity and access management (IAM), and data encryption.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, NIST, or DoD security requirements.
- Experience with serverless computing (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Active Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
