Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with accuracy, minimal discomfort, and strict adherence to safety protocols for patients of all ages.
- Properly identify patients, label specimens, and complete necessary documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare collected specimens for transport, ensuring correct storage conditions and timely dispatch to the laboratory.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked phlebotomy area, including managing supplies and disposing of biohazardous waste according to regulations.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to patients before, during, and after blood collection procedures.
- Monitor patient reactions during and after venipuncture, providing immediate assistance if adverse events occur.
- Adhere strictly to all HIPAA guidelines, patient confidentiality, and privacy regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain and enhance phlebotomy skills and knowledge of best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with medical staff, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary collection techniques.
- Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, and documentation.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of infection control and safety protocols.
