Job Description

We are currently seeking a skilled, passionate, and experienced Butcher (Meat Processing) to join our dynamic team at our Kericho Mega store. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a keen eye for quality, excellent butchery skills, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to our valued customers. As a Butcher at Naivas Supermarket, you will be at the heart of our fresh meat department, playing a crucial role in ensuring our counters are consistently stocked with premium cuts and that our customers receive expert advice and perfectly prepared products tailored to their needs. This role requires meticulous precision in meat preparation, strict adherence to hygiene and food safety standards, and a strong customer-centric approach to ensure a superior shopping experience.

You will be responsible for the entire meat processing journey, from receiving fresh produce to displaying attractive cuts on our retail counter. Your expertise will not only ensure product quality and freshness but also contribute significantly to customer satisfaction and loyalty. We are looking for someone who is not just a butcher, but a culinary assistant to our customers, capable of guiding them through selections and offering valuable cooking tips. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, cut, trim, grind, portion, and prepare various types of meat (beef, lamb, poultry, pork) according to Naivas's high quality standards, customer specifications, and established portion control guidelines.
  • Ensure proper storage, rotation, and attractive display of all meat products in the retail counter to maintain optimal freshness, quality, and visual appeal, thereby minimizing waste and spoilage.
  • Operate and maintain butchery equipment safely and efficiently, including saws, grinders, slicers, tenderizers, and packaging machinery, adhering strictly to all operational guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
  • Strictly adhere to all food safety regulations, hygiene standards, sanitation protocols, and occupational health and safety guidelines within the butchery department and throughout the retail counter area.
  • Provide exceptional, friendly, and professional customer service by assisting shoppers with their meat selections, offering expert cooking advice, recipe suggestions, and responding to inquiries promptly.
  • Monitor inventory levels of fresh meat products, assist with accurate ordering processes, and ensure precise labeling and pricing of all meat items on display.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times, including regular cleaning of workstations, equipment, and display cases, ensuring full compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with other department team members and store management to ensure smooth operations, efficient workflow, and a cohesive, positive customer experience within the entire store.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a butcher in a retail or food processing environment.
  • Exceptional knife handling skills and proficiency in various meat cutting techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of different meat cuts, quality indicators, and storage best practices.
  • Strong understanding and strict adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP, ISO 22000, etc.).
  • Ability to operate and maintain butchery equipment safely and effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a cold environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Meat Technology, Food Processing, or a related field.
  • Experience with inventory management and waste reduction techniques.
  • Ability to speak local languages in addition to English and Swahili.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
