Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed clients operating within a bustling industrial estate in Anchovy, St. James. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, compliant, and healthy work environment for all personnel and visitors. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, policies, and procedures that adhere to local regulations and international best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national legislation (e.g., OSHA, Factories Act) and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance, and areas for improvement, ensuring the industrial estate operates safely.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities, machinery, and processes, and recommend effective control measures.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure all necessary safety permits are in place and adhered to (e.g., Confined Space, Hot Work).
  • Maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities, incidents, inspections, and training.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and emergency services as required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through regular communication, campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on H&S performance metrics, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Manage the provision and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, Factories Act).
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Strong understanding of industrial machinery and processes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
  • Driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
