Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Funeral Service Attendant Assistant to join our dedicated team in Clayburn, Abbotsford. This vital role supports our funeral directors in ensuring that every service is conducted with the utmost respect, professionalism, and care. As an assistant, you will be instrumental in the preparation and presentation of our facilities and services, directly contributing to the comforting experience of grieving families.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be diverse, ranging from preparing the chapel and visitation rooms for services, assisting with transfers, to ensuring all necessary equipment and materials are organized and ready. This position requires a high degree of empathy, discretion, and the ability to perform duties efficiently and respectfully under emotional circumstances. You will often be the first point of contact for families entering our premises, making your warm and professional demeanor crucial. Physical stamina is also important, as the role involves lifting, moving, and maintaining the premises to immaculate standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist funeral directors with all aspects of funeral services, visitations, and memorial events.
  • Prepare and set up chapels, viewing rooms, and other facilities for services, ensuring cleanliness and appropriate decor.
  • Help with the transfer of deceased individuals from the place of death to the funeral home, adhering to all protocols and regulations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of funeral home facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Assist with dressing, casketing, and cosmetizing when required, under the supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Greet and direct families and guests with empathy and professionalism, answering basic inquiries.
  • Manage and organize floral tributes, memorial donations, and other service-related items.
  • Drive funeral vehicles, including hearses and family cars, safely and respectfully.
  • Perform general administrative duties and clerical tasks as needed.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation and forms are prepared and available for services.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) with assistance, and perform physical tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work respectfully and discreetly in emotionally charged environments.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a funeral home, healthcare, or customer service role.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of funeral customs and etiquette.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
