Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough feasibility studies, site investigations, and prepare comprehensive technical reports.
- Develop detailed engineering designs, plans, and specifications for diverse civil projects (e.g., roads, drainage systems, foundations, structures, earthworks).
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations in strict compliance with relevant Mauritian building codes and international standards.
- Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and other engineering tools for precise design and 3D modelling.
- Manage and supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and stringent safety regulations.
- Monitor project progress diligently, prepare regular status reports, and proactively identify potential issues or delays, proposing effective solutions.
- Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, local authorities, and other key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and approve contractor's submissions, detailed method statements, and material samples to ensure compliance and quality.
- Ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations and integrate sustainable engineering practices into all project phases.
- Participate actively in tendering processes, including accurate cost estimation and thorough bid evaluations.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior engineers and on-site staff, fostering professional growth.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in civil engineering design and construction supervision.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) is essential.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, materials, and construction methods.
- In-depth knowledge of local Mauritian building codes, regulations, and international design standards (e.g., Eurocodes, BS Standards).
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and robust problem-solving skills.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time-management abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel to various project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related specialized field.
- Professional registration or chartership with a recognised engineering body (e.g., CRPE, ICE, IStructE).
- Experience with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
- Demonstrated experience in sustainable design and green building practices.
- Proficiency in spoken and written French.
