Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chemical Engineer to join our professional team at our water treatment manufacturing plant in Port Antonio, Portland Parish. This critical role involves the application of chemical engineering principles to optimize and manage the complex processes involved in producing potable water, which we consider a highly refined manufacturing process. As a Chemical Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficiency, quality, and compliance of our water treatment operations, from raw water intake to final distribution. You will be responsible for process design, optimization, troubleshooting, and quality control, working with a diverse range of chemical and physical treatment methods. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of environmental regulations, process safety, and advanced water treatment technologies. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of water quality, ensuring that our operations meet or exceed national and international benchmarks. Key Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, and monitor chemical and physical water treatment processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of water quality data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to maintain optimal water parameters.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for chemical dosing, plant operations, and safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot operational issues related to chemical processes, equipment performance, and water quality deviations.
- Manage chemical procurement, storage, and handling, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
- Lead or participate in process improvement projects, including the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and methodologies.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure strict compliance with local and international environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Provide technical guidance and training to plant operators and other staff members on chemical processes and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with R&D, environmental, and maintenance teams to drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, preferably within water treatment, wastewater treatment, or a related continuous process manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of water chemistry, treatment technologies (e.g., coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection), and chemical dosing systems.
- Proficiency in process simulation and optimization software.
- Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance and environmental permitting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or eligibility for registration with the Professional Engineers Registration Board of Jamaica (PERBJ).
- Experience with SCADA systems and process control automation.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Project management experience in an industrial setting.
