The Health & Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of all personnel and visitors across a diverse industrial estate under Career.zycto’s management in Red Hills, Kingston. This professional will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs that comply with local and international standards, mitigating risks inherent to industrial operations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective health and safety policies and procedures aligned with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance across the industrial estate.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all staff, contractors, and tenants on relevant H&S topics.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety legislation, reporting requirements, and internal standards.
- Manage the maintenance of safety equipment, including fire suppression systems, emergency exits, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prepare detailed reports on H&S performance, incident trends, and compliance status for management review.
- Lead emergency response planning and drills, ensuring the estate is prepared for various crisis scenarios.
- Collaborate with tenant representatives to address specific H&S concerns and foster a unified safety culture.
- Stay updated on new H&S legislation, industry trends, and technological advancements to continually improve safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Jamaican and international H&S regulations (e.g., OSHA, local OHS acts).
- Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, hazard identification, and control measures.
- Strong understanding of industrial processes, machinery safety, and chemical management.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to conduct effective safety training and presentations.
