Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload luggage, cargo, and mail onto and off aircraft using appropriate equipment.
- Operate and drive ground support equipment such as tugs, belt loaders, and forklifts (after proper training and certification).
- Sort and transport baggage to and from baggage claim areas, aircraft, and terminal buildings.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, security procedures, and company policies, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Conduct pre-operational checks of equipment and promptly report any malfunctions or damage to supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with flight crew, other ground staff, and supervisors to ensure coordinated and timely operations.
- Work efficiently as part of a team to meet strict turnaround times for aircraft departures and arrivals.
- Assist passengers with special baggage needs or concerns, providing courteous and helpful service as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on the ramp and within baggage handling areas.
Required Skills
- Exceptional physical stamina and strength to lift and carry heavy luggage (up to 70 lbs/32 kg) repeatedly.
- Ability to work effectively and safely in a fast-paced, outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Strong commitment to safety procedures, protocols, and security guidelines.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (KCSE).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role, logistics, warehouse operations, or airport ground handling.
- Valid Kenyan driving license (Class BCE or similar) with a clean driving record.
- Basic understanding of aviation safety and security procedures.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Certification in operating ground support equipment.
