As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for a wide array of financial tasks, from managing daily transactions to assisting with month-end close procedures. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily bookkeeping and accounting operations.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring adherence to accounting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Maintain general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
  • Compile and analyse financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
  • Assist with payroll processing and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Prepare and submit tax declarations (VAT, PAYE, etc.) accurately and on schedule.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with auditors and assist with year-end audit preparations.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all financial and client information.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance department as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role.
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform bank reconciliations and manage general ledger accounts.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • High degree of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA foundation level) or actively pursuing one.
  • Experience with international accounting standards (IFRS).
  • Familiarity with the Mauritian tax landscape and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working in a corporate service provider or financial services environment.
