Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our professional team, specifically focusing on a bustling industrial estate environment in Bridgeport, Portmore. This is a pivotal role for a seasoned professional ready to make a significant impact on workplace safety and operational excellence. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges and requirements of an industrial setting, encompassing diverse operations from manufacturing to logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments within the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending preventative measures.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires.
  • Manage and maintain safety documentation, records, and reports, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits, ensuring all requirements are met.
  • Lead emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness initiatives.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and continuous communication.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with site-specific safety rules.
  • Participate in management review meetings, providing insights and recommendations on safety performance and improvement opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • High level of attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Membership in a professional safety organization (e.g., IOSH, ASSE).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
