Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments within the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending preventative measures.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Design and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires.
- Manage and maintain safety documentation, records, and reports, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and continuous communication.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with site-specific safety rules.
- Participate in management review meetings, providing insights and recommendations on safety performance and improvement opportunities.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- High level of attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
