As a Viticulturist, you will be the driving force behind our client’s vineyard operations, responsible for the health, vitality, and productivity of their grapevines. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive vineyard management plans, including pruning, training, canopy management, and trellising.
- Monitor vine health, identifying and managing pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies using sustainable and integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
- Conduct soil and tissue analysis to inform fertilizer and nutrient application strategies.
- Oversee irrigation scheduling and water management to optimize vine vigor and grape quality.
- Determine optimal harvest timing through Brix, pH, and titratable acidity measurements, and manage harvest operations.
- Supervise and train vineyard staff, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
- Maintain detailed records of vineyard activities, treatments, and observations.
- Research and implement new viticultural techniques and technologies to enhance vineyard performance and sustainability.
- Collaborate closely with the Winemaker to achieve desired grape characteristics for specific wine styles.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Enology, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in vineyard management.
- In-depth knowledge of vine physiology, pathology, and soil science.
- Proficiency in integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable viticulture practices.
- Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and problem-solving.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Experience with organic or biodynamic viticulture certification.
- Knowledge of specific German grape varieties and regional viticultural practices.
- Familiarity with vineyard management software and precision viticulture technologies.
- Valid German driver's license.
