Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Health & Safety Officer to join our team at the industrial estate in Bodles, Old Harbour. This professional role is critical to maintaining and enhancing our robust safety culture, ensuring compliance with all national and international health and safety regulations, and minimizing workplace risks. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and providing essential training to all levels of staff. You will act as a key advisor to management on all H&S matters, driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a proactive safety mindset across the entire industrial complex.

This position demands a meticulous individual with a strong understanding of industrial operations, machinery safety, hazardous materials management, and emergency response planning. You will be responsible for investigating incidents, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in preparing for and undergoing regulatory inspections, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and compliant. Our industrial estate is a dynamic environment, encompassing various production lines, warehousing, and logistics operations, requiring a versatile and adaptable safety professional. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with H&S standards.
  • Investigate all workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all aspects of occupational health and safety.
  • Organize and deliver H&S training sessions, workshops, and induction programs for new and existing staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, inspections, training, and compliance documentation.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and first aid provisions.
  • Manage the procurement, maintenance, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with department heads to integrate safety considerations into all operational processes and new projects.
  • Stay updated on relevant H&S legislation, industry standards, and emerging risks to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
  • Prepare comprehensive H&S reports for management and regulatory bodies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican H&S regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective H&S training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, or equivalent.
  • Experience with hazardous materials management and control.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in an industrial estate with diverse operations (e.g., logistics, manufacturing, warehousing).
