Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer for a pivotal role within a dynamic industrial estate in Coral Gardens, Montego Bay. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial environment, which includes manufacturing, logistics, and maintenance operations. You will serve as the primary resource for all health and safety matters, conducting regular audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with local regulations (e.g., OSHA, Factories Act of Jamaica) and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard communication, emergency preparedness, machinery guarding, and confined space entry.
- Monitor and ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the industrial estate.
- Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with departmental managers and supervisors to integrate safety measures into daily operational activities.
- Prepare and present regular reports on safety performance, trends, and compliance status to senior management.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external regulatory bodies during inspections or audits.
- Lead emergency response efforts, including fire drills, medical emergencies, and evacuation procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and relevant international standards.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and workshops.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
