Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within a bustling industrial estate in Coopers Pen, Falmouth. This pivotal role demands a proactive and detail-oriented professional capable of developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs that comply with local regulations and international best practices. The successful candidate will be instrumental in cultivating a strong safety culture, identifying potential hazards, and mitigating risks across diverse industrial operations, including manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems in line with national legislation (e.g., OSHA Jamaica) and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Lead and coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and disaster management protocols.
  • Deliver engaging and effective safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires on various H&S topics.
  • Monitor and report on key H&S performance indicators, providing regular updates to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage hazardous waste disposal and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, training, inspections, and certifications.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies, consultants, and emergency services as required.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards in Jamaica.
  • Excellent analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards.
