Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within a bustling industrial estate in Coopers Pen, Falmouth. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems in line with national legislation (e.g., OSHA Jamaica) and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead and coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and disaster management protocols.
- Deliver engaging and effective safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires on various H&S topics.
- Monitor and report on key H&S performance indicators, providing regular updates to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Manage hazardous waste disposal and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, training, inspections, and certifications.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, consultants, and emergency services as required.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards in Jamaica.
- Excellent analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- A valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of construction safety standards.
