Job Description
Gamma Construction is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mason with exceptional expertise in general building and precise tiling techniques to join our dedicated team in Henrietta, Vacoas-Phoenix. This is a prime opportunity for an accomplished professional to make a significant contribution to a diverse portfolio of challenging and impactful construction projects throughout Mauritius. You will operate within a collaborative framework, working closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other skilled tradespeople. Your primary objective will be to ensure that all masonry and tiling assignments are executed efficiently, safely, and in strict adherence to industry best practices and project specifications. Your daily responsibilities will span from interpreting complex blueprints and architectural drawings to selecting optimal construction materials, performing accurate measurements and precise cutting, expertly mixing mortar and grout to exact consistencies, and skillfully laying bricks, blocks, and various types of tiles. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications to determine layout, dimensions, and material requirements for masonry and tiling work.
- Lay bricks, concrete blocks, natural stone, and other masonry materials with precision to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, and various structural elements.
- Prepare and mix mortar, concrete, and grout to the specified consistencies and quantities required for each task.
- Cut and trim masonry materials to exact sizes and angles using a variety of power and hand tools.
- Install diverse types of tiles, including ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, and natural stone, on floors, walls, and other surfaces, ensuring perfect alignment, levelness, and strong adhesion.
- Thoroughly prepare surfaces for tiling, which includes cleaning, levelling, patching, and applying appropriate primers or waterproofing membranes.
- Apply grout meticulously between tiles, ensuring a clean, uniform, and waterproof finish.
- Perform general plastering, rendering, pointing, and minor concrete repair work as required by project scope.
- Routinely inspect all finished masonry and tiling work for quality, accuracy, structural integrity, and strict adherence to building codes and company safety standards.
- Maintain an impeccably clean, organised, and safe work environment at all times, rigorously adhering to all company and site-specific safety regulations and procedures.
- Safely operate and maintain a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and relevant light machinery used in masonry and tiling.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and labourers, to ensure seamless project coordination and execution.
- Promptly report any material deficiencies, structural issues, or safety concerns to the site supervisor.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven, hands-on experience as a Mason or Bricklayer with demonstrated strong tiling capabilities.
- High proficiency in laying various masonry materials, including bricks, concrete blocks, and natural stone.
- Expert-level knowledge and application of floor and wall tiling techniques, encompassing surface preparation, precise installation, and meticulous grouting.
- Advanced ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical specifications.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction methods, building materials, and relevant local building codes and regulations.
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and manual dexterity.
- Demonstrated physical stamina and strength necessary to perform strenuous tasks, including lifting and handling heavy materials, often in varying weather conditions.
- Acute attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, durable workmanship.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a larger construction team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a vocational training program or possession of a recognised certification in Masonry, Bricklaying, or Tiling.
- A valid Mauritian driver's license.
- Prior experience operating specific construction machinery relevant to masonry work, such as mortar mixers, tile cutters, or forklifts.
- Knowledge of various types of specialised mortars, adhesives, grouts, and sealants for different applications.
