Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group academic support to students requiring assistance in various subjects, reinforcing concepts taught by the lead teacher.
- Assist the lead teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials, classroom activities, and learning resources.
- Support classroom management by helping to maintain a positive, orderly, and engaging learning environment for all students.
- Observe and document student progress, behavior, and challenges, providing feedback to the lead teacher to inform instructional strategies.
- Assist students with special needs or learning differences, implementing individualized education plan (IEP) accommodations as directed.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, including lunch, recess, and transitions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Help set up and break down classroom equipment, technology, and activity stations.
- Foster positive relationships with students, promoting self-esteem, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure holistic student development.
Required Skills
- Post-secondary education in Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related field (e.g., college diploma or university degree).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children or youth in an educational or childcare setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and parents.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting student learning and development.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Basic knowledge of classroom management techniques and educational support strategies.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with diverse learning styles and exceptionalities.
- Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience using educational technology or online learning platforms.
- Additional language proficiency is an asset.
