Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Marine Technician specializing in boat repair to join one of our esteemed clients operating in the bustling Kariobangi area of Nairobi. As a Marine Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse range of marine vessels, from small recreational boats to larger commercial crafts. The role involves intricate work on engines (inboard and outboard), electrical systems, plumbing, hull repair, and general vessel upkeep. Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various marine vessels, including engines (diesel/petrol, inboard/outboard), transmissions, and steering systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance, preventative care, and major repairs on boat engines, propulsion systems, and related components.
  • Conduct electrical system diagnostics and repairs, including wiring, navigation equipment, communication systems, and auxiliary power units.
  • Execute fiberglass and hull repairs, painting, and cosmetic restoration, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
  • Install, service, and repair plumbing systems, bilge pumps, sanitation systems, and other on-board amenities.
  • Order and manage parts inventory necessary for repairs, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of all services performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental regulations in all repair and maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical advice and support to clients, explaining repair procedures and maintenance recommendations clearly and professionally.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Marine Technician or Boat Mechanic
  • Strong knowledge of marine engine systems (outboard and inboard, diesel and petrol)
  • Proficiency in marine electrical systems and troubleshooting
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and steering mechanisms
  • Skilled in fiberglass repair and hull maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software relevant to marine engines
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized marine technical institution (e.g., ABYC, NMEA)
  • Experience with specific marine engine brands (e.g., Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar)
  • Welding and fabrication skills relevant to marine applications
  • Familiarity with marine plumbing and sanitation systems
  • First Aid and CPR certification
