Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) with examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
  • Learn and practice safe and effective animal handling and restraint techniques for various species.
  • Prepare examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients, record observations, and report changes to senior staff.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures, including preparing samples for analysis.
  • Support client communication by answering basic questions, scheduling appointments, and providing discharge instructions under supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the clinic, including kennels, treatment areas, and reception.
  • Develop proficiency in administering medications and vaccinations under direct supervision.
  • Accurately record patient information and procedures in medical records.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable passion for animal welfare and a strong desire to work with animals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and learn new tasks quickly.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn veterinary software.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or recent graduate of an accredited Animal Health Technology or Veterinary Assistant program.
  • Previous volunteer or paid experience working with animals (e.g., animal shelter, pet store, farm).
  • Familiarity with basic animal first aid.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
