This pivotal professional role demands a keen eye for detail, robust knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, and a proven track record in fostering a culture of safety that permeates every level of operation.

In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs designed to protect personnel, assets, and the environment across various industrial operations within the estate. You will be the primary authority ensuring strict adherence to all national safety standards, including those outlined by the Factories Act and other relevant Jamaican legislation, as well as international best practices. A critical aspect of your work will involve conducting thorough and regular risk assessments, performing detailed site inspections, and proactively identifying potential hazards across diverse industrial settings – from manufacturing units to warehousing and logistics. Your responsibilities will extend to implementing effective corrective and preventive actions, ensuring full compliance and mitigating risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs specific to an industrial estate environment.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA).
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of employees, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Prepare and submit accurate safety reports, including incident summaries, inspection findings, and compliance status.
  • Manage hazardous materials programs, including storage, handling, and disposal procedures.
  • Develop, review, and update emergency response plans and coordinate emergency drills.
  • Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to ensure effective implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of new or revised safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Facilitate the formation and effective operation of safety committees.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., Factories Act).
  • Proven experience in risk assessment, hazard identification, and control measures.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for training and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
