Piri Piri Restaurante in Zimpeto, Maputo is seeking an enthusiastic Entry-Level Restaurant Host/Hostess Aide to join our front-of-house team. This is an incredible opportunity for someone with little to no prior experience, eager to learn and grow within a fast-paced and supportive environment. As a Host/Hostess Aide, you will be the first point of contact for our guests, setting the tone for their entire dining experience. Your primary role will be to warmly greet customers, manage waiting lists, assist with seating arrangements, and ensure the dining area remains inviting and orderly. You will play a vital supportive role to our waitstaff and management, contributing significantly to the overall efficiency and positive ambiance of the restaurant. Key Responsibilities
- Warmly welcome guests as they arrive, managing expectations with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Efficiently manage the reservation book and waiting list, estimating wait times accurately.
- Escort guests to their tables, presenting menus, and informing them of daily specials or promotions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand, entrance area, and waiting areas.
- Assist with preparing tables for new guests, including setting up place settings, cutlery, and water.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and take reservations with courtesy and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth service flow.
- Observe dining room activities to assist guests and support service staff as needed.
- Handle guest concerns or special requests promptly and professionally, escalating to management when necessary.
- Ensure all menus are clean, presentable, and up-to-date.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills in Portuguese (and/or English).
- Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine desire to serve guests.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, and occasionally lift light items for extended periods.
- A positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in customer service or a guest-facing role (even outside of hospitality).
- Familiarity with local Maputo culture and hospitality standards.
- Proficiency in additional local languages (e.g., Changana, Ronga) is a strong plus.
- Basic computer literacy for reservation systems (training provided).
