Job Description

As a Heavy Equipment Operator at Cim Logistics, you will be an integral and vital part of our operational team based in Rose Hill, Plaines Wilhems District. Your primary responsibility will be the safe and highly efficient operation of various heavy machinery, with a particular focus on forklifts (including counterbalance, reach trucks, and telehandlers) and wheel loaders. You will be tasked with expertly moving, loading, unloading, and meticulously stacking a wide range of materials and products within our state-of-the-art facilities and designated operational sites. Your precision and expertise will be crucial in ensuring the seamless flow of goods, directly contributing to the efficiency and reliability of our daily logistics operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate various types of forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach trucks, telehandlers) and wheel loaders to move, stack, load, and unload materials and products.
  • Conduct daily comprehensive pre-operation inspections of all assigned equipment, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and other essential components, and promptly report any defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Accurately load and unload trucks, containers, and railway cars, ensuring no damage occurs to goods or property during the process.
  • Transport materials to designated storage areas within the warehouse or yard, ensuring proper stacking, organization, and optimal space utilization.
  • Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, standard operating procedures, and relevant traffic regulations, consistently maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, tidy, and organized work area, ensuring clear aisles and proper storage of all equipment and materials.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with supervisors, dispatchers, and other team members regarding operational status, potential delays, or any safety concerns.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of equipment as required, and schedule major repairs in coordination with the maintenance department.
  • Accurately complete all required logs, reports, and other necessary documentation pertaining to material movement and equipment operation.
  • Support other operational tasks and duties as directed by the supervisor to ensure overall smooth workflow and operational efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in operating various types of forklifts (counterbalance, reach trucks, telehandlers) and wheel loaders.
  • Valid heavy equipment operator license or certification specific to Mauritius.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to workplace safety procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and depth perception.
  • Ability to perform thorough pre-operation checks and basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in material handling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of continuous and verifiable experience in a similar heavy equipment operation role, preferably within a fast-paced logistics, warehousing, or construction environment.
  • Experience with operating other heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, dozers) is considered a significant advantage.
  • Possession of a valid first aid certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification.
  • Familiarity with basic inventory management systems and scanning equipment.
