Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Full-Time Crane Operator to join our dynamic construction team in Gitarama (now Muhanga), Southern Province. As a Crane Operator at CRBC, you will be instrumental in the execution of critical lifting operations across various large-scale construction projects, from road construction to significant civil engineering endeavors. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a profound understanding of crane mechanics and safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced construction environment. You will be responsible for operating various types of cranes, including mobile and tower cranes, to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment with utmost precision. Your expertise will directly contribute to the efficiency, safety, and timely completion of our projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of cranes (e.g., mobile cranes, tower cranes) safely and efficiently, following all operational procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Inspect cranes and lifting equipment daily, reporting any defects or malfunctions immediately to supervision.
  • Determine the proper rigging for loads, ensuring balanced and secure lifting operations.
  • Monitor load capacities and wind conditions to ensure safe operation, adhering strictly to load charts and lifting plans.
  • Communicate effectively with ground crew, riggers, and project managers using hand signals, radio communication, and other standard methods.
  • Position and stabilize cranes correctly before operations, including setting outriggers and counterweights.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and minor repairs on crane equipment as required.
  • Adhere to all site safety rules, regulations, and company policies, contributing to a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of crane operations, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in site safety meetings and training sessions to continuously improve operational safety standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Crane Operator on large construction sites.
  • Valid Crane Operator certification from a recognized authority.
  • Thorough understanding of crane mechanics, rigging techniques, and load dynamics.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret load charts, blueprints, and lifting plans.
  • Effective communication skills with ground crew and supervisors.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional certifications for operating specialized crane types.
  • Experience with telehandler or heavy equipment operation.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with local Rwandan construction regulations and safety standards.
