As a Freight Forwarder, you will be the backbone of our international operations, coordinating with carriers, customs officials, and clients to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of freight. You will be responsible for preparing, processing, and overseeing all necessary shipping documents, including bills of lading, customs declarations, packing lists, and certificates of origin. Your expertise will ensure smooth customs clearance and mitigate potential delays or issues. You’ll be the go-to person for queries related to tariffs, duties, and import/export restrictions, providing expert advice to clients and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end freight forwarding operations for international shipments (air, sea, and road).
  • Prepare, check, and process all required shipping documentation, including customs entries, bills of lading, airway bills, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and relevant trade laws.
  • Liaise effectively with shipping lines, airlines, hauliers, customs authorities, and overseas agents.
  • Provide expert advice to clients on import/export requirements, tariffs, duties, and customs classifications.
  • Track and trace shipments, providing regular updates to clients and resolving any transit issues promptly.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and optimise shipping routes to achieve cost-effective and timely deliveries.
  • Process invoices, manage billing, and ensure accurate record-keeping for all shipments.
  • Handle customer enquiries and complaints, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Utilise freight forwarding software and systems to maintain accurate data and streamline processes.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Freight Forwarder in an international logistics environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of international shipping procedures, documentation, and customs regulations (e.g., incoterms, HMRC guidelines).
  • Proficiency in freight forwarding software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or international trade.
  • Experience with various customs declaration systems (e.g., CHIEF, CDS).
  • Multilingual abilities (especially European languages) are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
