Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated and skilled Port Operator to join a leading client’s team within the bustling Aberdeen Harbour. This pivotal on-site role focuses on comprehensive dock and warehouse coordination, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of goods and vessels. As a Port Operator, you will be at the heart of daily port activities, playing a critical role in managing cargo operations, maintaining strict safety protocols, and optimizing logistics flows. Your expertise will contribute directly to the smooth functioning of port logistics, from vessel discharge and loading to meticulous warehouse management and inventory control. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate various port machinery and equipment, including forklifts, reach stackers, and cranes (where certified), for the loading and unloading of cargo from vessels.
  • Coordinate dockside operations, ensuring optimal berth utilization and smooth vessel turnarounds.
  • Manage warehouse inventory, including receiving, storing, organizing, and dispatching goods, maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and operational areas, reporting any defects or safety hazards promptly.
  • Strictly adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) regulations and company procedures.
  • Prepare and verify shipping and receiving documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with vessel crews, hauliers, customs officials, and internal teams to facilitate seamless operations.
  • Assist with the mooring and unmooring of vessels as required.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance operational skills and safety knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in port operations, logistics, or a similar heavy industrial environment.
  • Demonstrable experience operating material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, reach stacker) with valid certification.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations pertinent to port and warehouse environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in various weather conditions.
  • Physical fitness for manual handling tasks and extended periods of standing/walking.
  • Basic IT literacy for data entry and record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience specifically within a port or marine terminal setting in Aberdeen.
  • Valid full UK driving license.
  • Knowledge of cargo securing techniques and relevant international regulations.
  • Relevant maritime or logistics qualifications.
  • First Aid certification.
