Career.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Canteen Attendant to join our school catering team in Kibera, Nairobi. This pivotal role involves ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the school canteen, providing nutritious meals and a positive dining experience for students and staff. As a Canteen Attendant, you will be at the heart of daily meal service, playing a crucial role in maintaining hygiene standards, assisting with food preparation, and serving meals with a friendly smile. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks to students and staff.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the canteen area, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring proper waste disposal.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as warmers, ovens, and dishwashers.
  • Monitor food temperatures to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Restock food items, beverages, and supplies as needed.
  • Assist with inventory management and reporting of stock levels.
  • Handle cash transactions and maintain accurate records, if required.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene policies and procedures.
  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service to all canteen users.
  • Assist with setting up and clearing down the canteen for daily service.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a catering or food service environment (minimum 6 months).
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices (HACCP or similar).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate in Food and Beverage Service or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a school or institutional catering setting.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Ability to speak local languages in addition to English (Swahili).
