Job Description

A robust Health & Safety Officer is sought to oversee and enhance safety protocols across our vibrant industrial estate in Half Way Tree, Kingston. This professional role is critical in cultivating a proactive safety culture, ensuring strict compliance with local and international occupational health and safety regulations, and mitigating potential hazards. As a pivotal member of our operational team, you will be instrumental in safeguarding our employees, visitors, and assets, while contributing to the overall efficiency and sustainability of our industrial operations. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced professional, adept at identifying risks, developing effective safety programs, and conducting thorough investigations. Your day-to-day will involve a blend of strategic planning, hands-on site inspections, training delivery, and collaborative problem-solving. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OHS regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend corrective actions within the industrial estate.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure timely reporting of all accidents, near misses, and occupational diseases.
  • Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for all levels of employees, fostering a strong safety-conscious culture.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all operational areas.
  • Manage and maintain accurate H&S records, prepare reports, and present findings to management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for H&S matters, liaising with regulatory bodies, emergency services, and external consultants.
  • Implement emergency preparedness plans and conduct regular drills (e.g., fire, earthquake).
  • Stay abreast of new legislation, industry standards, and best practices in occupational health and safety.
  • Promote waste reduction, environmental protection, and sustainable practices within the industrial estate.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in occupational health and safety management in an industrial setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and relevant international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification abilities.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Knowledge of waste management and industrial hygiene principles.
  • Proficiency in safety management software.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
