Job Description
A robust Health & Safety Officer is sought to oversee and enhance safety protocols across our vibrant industrial estate in Half Way Tree, Kingston. This professional role is critical in cultivating a proactive safety culture, ensuring strict compliance with local and international occupational health and safety regulations, and mitigating potential hazards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OHS regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend corrective actions within the industrial estate.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure timely reporting of all accidents, near misses, and occupational diseases.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for all levels of employees, fostering a strong safety-conscious culture.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all operational areas.
- Manage and maintain accurate H&S records, prepare reports, and present findings to management.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for H&S matters, liaising with regulatory bodies, emergency services, and external consultants.
- Implement emergency preparedness plans and conduct regular drills (e.g., fire, earthquake).
- Stay abreast of new legislation, industry standards, and best practices in occupational health and safety.
- Promote waste reduction, environmental protection, and sustainable practices within the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in occupational health and safety management in an industrial setting.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and relevant international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification abilities.
- Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
