Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Agricultural Officer to join our dedicated team in Beau Bassin-Rose Hill. This pivotal role involves a comprehensive range of activities centered on ensuring agricultural best practices, regulatory compliance, and providing expert guidance to farmers and agricultural stakeholders across Mauritius. You will be responsible for conducting thorough on-site inspections of farms, nurseries, and processing facilities to assess adherence to national and international agricultural standards, biosecurity protocols, and environmental regulations. Your expertise will be vital in identifying areas for improvement, advising on corrective actions, and implementing innovative solutions to address agricultural challenges. This position requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of tropical agriculture. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field inspections of farms, plantations, and agricultural facilities to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and best practice guidelines.
- Provide technical advice and support to farmers on crop management, pest and disease control, soil health, irrigation techniques, and sustainable farming practices.
- Investigate reported issues concerning crop health, livestock welfare, food safety, and environmental impact, recommending appropriate remedial actions.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, advisory documents, and technical briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor agricultural trends, research new technologies, and identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements within the sector.
- Collaborate with government agencies, research institutions, and industry associations to develop and implement agricultural policies and programs.
- Organize and conduct workshops, training sessions, and outreach programs for farmers on various agricultural topics.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, consultations, and interventions, contributing to a comprehensive agricultural database.
- Participate in the development and review of agricultural standards and quality assurance protocols.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in agricultural inspection, extension services, or farm management.
- In-depth knowledge of Mauritian agricultural practices, crops, and livestock.
- Strong understanding of agricultural regulations, biosecurity, and food safety standards.
- Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English and French (Creole is an advantage).
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently across the island for site visits.

- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
